What is ISTA 6?
ISTA 6 is a packaging test standard of the International Safe Transit Association (ISTA). It is the standard prescribed by Amazon for certified shipping packaging.
ISTA 6 tests simulate realistic transport situations - including shock, vibration, pressure and drops that can occur in the supply chain. This ensures that products reach customers safely and undamaged.
FFP, SIOC and PFP
The Amazon Certification Programme has three levels of certification:
Level 1: Frustration Free Packaging (FFP)
Level 2: Shipped in Own Container (SIOC)
Level 3: Preparation Free Packaging (PFP)
FFP - Frustration Free Packaging
Shipping: Direct to product packaging, no Amazon Carton
Requirements:
- Recyclable packaging
- Easy to open
- ISTA 6 Amazon certificate
SIOC - Ships In Own Container
Shipping: In its own packaging, without additional Amazon outer packaging
Requirements:
- Packaging must be strong & suitable for shipping
- ISTA 6-Amazon Certificate
PFP - Prep-Free Packaging
Shipping: With Amazon outer packaging, but without manual preparation
Requirements:
- Amazon compliant packaging
- No additional preparation in warehouse
