Constant Acceleration

Constant acceleration inquiry

What is the goal of a constant acceleration?

Testing under constant acceleration is carried out using a centrifuge. The aim of a centrifuge test is to simulate the loading of products under constant acceleration forces, as they occur in aerospace and ballistic applications. The results provide important data on the structural integrity (stiffness) of your product and the reliability of the selected fasteners.

What happens during the testing under constant acceleration?

The centrifuge creates an artificial gravity condition. The service life of the product can be estimated by repeating the loads. The sequence of such a test is:

  1. Preparation: The specimen is attached to the centrifuge. Additional power supply can be connected.
  2. Acceleration Phase: The centrifuge is run up to the desired acceleration by an electric motor.
  3. Holding Phase: The centrifuge maintains the acceleration specified in the individual determination for the specified period of time.
  4. Evaluation: After completion, a visual inspection is carried out for any mechanical damage. If the test specimen has been tested under function, the recorded data is evaluated additionally.

In which areas is the constant acceleration used?

Centrifuges play a decisive role in environmental simulations. Conditions such as those simulated by the centrifuge are used in various areas:

  • Automotive: pumps, filters, sensors
  • Aerospace: engine components
  • Electronics: Various types of electronic components
  • Packaging Industry: Sensitive goods

Standards: RTCA DO-160, ISO 2669
