IP31 - solid protection for indoor use
Not every device needs to withstand harsh weather conditions or dusty industrial environments. For many indoor applications, basic protection is enough - this is where IP31 comes in. This level of protection ensures that your technology remains safe from larger foreign objects and light drops of water.

What does IP31 mean for you?
IP stands for Ingress Protection - protection against the ingress of foreign objects and water. The numbers indicate how well your equipment is protected:
3 - Protection against foreign objects from 2.5mm: No ingress of tools or thick wires.
1 - Protection against vertically falling water drops: No damage from light drops, but not suitable for splashing water.
How we test your product to IP31:
For a device to achieve IP31 certification, it must pass two tests:
Foreign object test: This tests whether objects with a diameter of 2.5mm or more can penetrate the case.
Water test: Water is dripped vertically from above. The drops must not have any harmful effect on its function.

Where does IP31 make a difference?
If your technology is used in dry indoor areas and only requires limited protection, IP31 is the right choice. Typical areas of application are
- Electrical enclosures in dry rooms
- Lighting systems in protected environments
- Electronic devices in offices or living areas
- Medical devices for use in hospitals
Your benefit: Reliable indoor protection
With IP31-rated devices, you can rely on safety in enclosed spaces - without unnecessary protection for environments where it is not needed. This is a cost-effective solution for many everyday applications.
