The aim is to determine how easily a material catches fire, how long it burns and whether it is potentially self-extinguishing. These tests are essential for safety assessment and help to minimise risk in various industries.
What happens during a needle flame test?
In a needle flame test, the test object is exposed to a 12 mm high flame under controlled conditions. The test procedure varies depending on the severity, but always includes an ignition time: How quickly does the material ignite?
Burning behaviour: How does the flame spread? Do burning parts drip?
Self-extinguishing: Does the flame go out on its own?
